Menorca National Day is celebrated annually on January 17th and is an important holiday on the island of Menorca, one of Spain's Balearic Islands. The day is associated with a historical event: the annexation of Menorca to the Spanish Crown in 1287, when King Alfonso III of Aragon liberated the island from Muslim rule.

History of the holiday
In 1287, Alfonso III, King of Aragon, launched a military campaign to liberate Menorca, which was under Moorish rule at the time. This event marked the end of Muslim rule on the island and its annexation to the Christian Kingdom of Aragon.

January 17th also coincides with the Day of Saint Anthony the Great, who is considered the patron saint of Menorca. On this day, religious events are held in honor of the saint.
